Motor Vehicle Accident (POV Used for Official Travel)
Employees have limited coverage when using their own private vehicles for government travel. If the government employee had potential fault in the accident, the Department of Commerce may accept some liability limited to damage and injuries to the other vehicle and occupants. Since this is a legal decision, the Department of Commerce General Counsel should be consulted at (202) 482-1067.

Personal automobile insurance covers damages to a privately operated vehicle, the government generally covers the other party.
